A Sick Madonna Shortens MDNA Set List

A combination of a suspect package, torrential rain and Madonna feeling unwell meant that the show in Santiago, Chile last night (Tuesday 19 December) did not start until 11:35pm and several songs were cut from the show - including the whole opening section. The show started instead from 'Express Yourself'.

...or perhaps she was so angry at the soundcheck crowd for smoking in her presence she decided to punish the lessers? Here is a video clip of Madonna in the rain during the soundcheck of 'Human Nature' telling off fans for smoking in the audience.

The set list included:

  1. "Express Yourself"
  2. "Give Me All Your Luvin'" (Just Blaze Remix)
  3. "Turning Up the Hits" (Video Interlude)
  4. "Turn Up the Radio"
  5. "Open Your Heart"
  6. "Holiday"
  7. "Spanish Lesson"
  8. "Masterpiece"
  9. "Justify My Love"  (Video Interlude)
  10. "Vogue"
  11. "Candy Shop"
  12. "Human Nature"
  13. "Nobody Knows Me" (Video Interlude)
  14. "I'm a Sinner"
  15. "Like a Prayer"
  16. "Celebration"

Madonna Rules Billboard.com's Readers Poll 2012

Once Billboard.com readers weighed in on their favorite artists, songs and albums of the year, Madonna emerged as the 2012 MVP and came out on top in four other categories.

One year after pop divas like Britney Spears, Adele and Lady Gaga ruled the 2011 Billboard.com Readers' Poll, Madonna dominated the competition in the 2012 edition of our year-end fan forum. Once Billboard.com readers weighed in on their favorite artists, songs and albums over the past 12 months, Madonna emerged as the 2012 MVP, and came out on top in four other categories.

Check out all of the results below, including the percentage of the votes that each candidate received in each category, and give us your feedback in the comments section.

2012 MVP
MADONNA
1. Madonna (26%)
FRANK OCEAN
2. Frank Ocean (12%)
ONE DIRECTION
3. One Direction (11%)

Madonna's achievements included earning the most votes for favorite Billboard 200 No. 1 album with her chart-topping "MDNA"; winning the Best Tour crown for her MDNA trek, which grossed more money than any other run this year, according to Billboard Boxscore; nabbing favorite TV performance for her Super Bowl halftime show extravaganza last February; and even winning most memorable feud for her war of words with Lady Gaga. For that incredible year, Madonna was handed the MVP crown from last year's winner, Britney Spears; in doing so, she topped Frank Ocean, Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj, who came in second, third and fourth in voting, respectively.

MDNA Tour

Madonna Will Now Explain All the Controversial Stuff That Happened on Her Tour

First came the swastika, and then some fake guns, and then a Pussy Riot speech, and a protest against Russia's anti-gay-pride laws, and at some point in there, she was getting booed by French fans (and also Elton John). The point is: Madonna's MDNA tour has been a rousing success, if success is defined as "getting Madonna as much attention as possible." And so, to keep that publicity train rolling, Madonna has released a sort of tour manifesto, to explain the controversial elements of her show (and shore up support against the Russian civil rights group that is planning to sue her). The open letter begins thusly: "My show / is a journey / the journey of a soul from darkness to light." And it goes on.
On the subject of the fake-gun use, which earned her some criticism in the wake of the Aurora shooting:
"It's true there is a lot of violence in the beginning of the show and sometimes the use of fake guns — but they are used as metaphors.
I do not condone violence or the use of guns.
Rather they are symbols of wanting to appear strong and wanting to find a way to stop feelings that I find hurtful or damaging. In my case, its wanting to stop the lies and hypocrisy of the church, the intolerance of many narrow minded cultures and societies I have experience throughout my life and in some cases the pain I have felt from having my heart broken."
And here is something about how the show is like a movie:
"When you watch a film there are usually good guys and bad guys to help illustrate this point. Sometimes I play both.
I enjoy acting out this journey."
So,in summary: Stop yelling at Madonna. She's just out here trying to heal people and get her EGOT. Why won't you just give her that EGOT already?

Pre-Madonna

Burning Up Demo

Stephen Bray produced demo of Madonna's "Burning Up" from 1981. As Stephen Bray himself noted about this track: "Looking back, it seems we nailed a 'Joan Jett' sitting in with 'New Order'

I really, really hope she teams up with Stephen again...he's very talented

Madonna gigs outsell Lady Gaga three to one

Madonna concerts in South America outsell rival Lady Gaga by three to one, according to latest statistics.

The statistic is even more embarrassing to Gaga as Madonna's 'MDNA' tour tickets are also three times more expensive than briefs for her 'Born This Way' world tour.

The Examiner reports that Lady Gaga's management used under-hand tactics, such as issuing buy-one-get-one-free deals to fans, in order to boost crowd numbers. The singer played in front of a crowd of 50,000 in Peru but only 17,000 tickets were sold.

However, Madonna played in the same venues on the South American leg of her worldwide 'MDNA' tour and managed to sell-out the stadiums without having to resort to issuing incentives to raise numbers.

The feuding pair have been at each others throats ever since Madonna claimed that Gaga's track 'Born This Way' sounded "familiar" to her 1989 hit 'Express Yourself'. Throughout this year's 'MDNA' tour, Madonna has mocked the similarities between the two songs by performing a mash-up of 'Express Yourself' and 'Born This Way' followed by a pointed snippet of a track called 'She's Not Me'.

During a show in Atlantic City in September, Madonna dedicated her song 'Masterpiece' to Gaga, before saying: "I love her. I love her. I do love her. Imitation is the highest form of flattery."

Last month, Madonna's famous conical bra was sold for $51,971 (£32,450) at auction. The iconic garment - which was made famous by the Queen of Pop during her 1990 Blonde Ambition tour - fetched twice its estimated price when it went under the hammer at a music memorabilia auction at Christie's.
