Madonna, Whitney Back on Top of Charts Together

WHITNEY HOUSTON MADONNA 1986 X390 (FAIR) | ADVOCATE.COM
For the first time in 15 years, pop divas Madonna and Whitney Houston have Top 10 singles on theBillboard Hot 100 at the same time.
Houston's rendition of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" reached number 7 following her sudden death last Saturday. Madonna, meanwhile, saw her new single, "Give Me All Your Luvin'," which features Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., reach number 10 on the charts.
Houston and Madonna last shared chart space on the Top 10 during the week of January 27, 1996, "when Houston's former No. 1 'Exhale (Shoop, Shoop)' held at No. 2 (for the ninth of its 11 frames at the runner-up spot after its lone week at the summit) and Madonna's 'You'll See' rebounded 10-8 after peaking at No. 6," according to Billboard.

Week Ending Feb. 12, 2012. Songs: Luv For Madonna

Just 10 days have passed since Madonna's Super Bowl performance, but it seems long ago. We've since absorbed the shock of Whitney Houston's death and the impact of Adele's coronation at the Grammys. "Give Me All Your Luvin'," which Madonna performed with guests Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. in her half-time show, jumps from #13 to #10 in its second week on the Hot 100. This is Madonna's first top 10 hit since "4 Minutes" (featuring Justin Timberlake) ended an 11-week run in June 2008.

This nearly four-year gap between top 10 hits is the longest dry spell of Madonna's career. Her previous longest gap between top 10 hits came between her James Bond theme "Die Another Day," which peaked at #8 in November 2002, and her dance hit "Hung Up," which peaked at #7 in December 2005.

"Give Me All Your Luvin'" is Madonna's 38th top 10 hit. This extends her lead as the artist with the most top 10 hits in the rock era, which began in 1955. Elvis Presley is in second place, with 36 top 10 hits. (Little-known fact: Elvis died on Madonna's 19th birthday: Aug. 16, 1977.) The Beatles are in third place with 34 top 10 hits.
While Madonna's last two top 10 hits have been collabos, she had no duet partners on her first 36 top 10 hits.

Madonna landed her first top 10 hit, "Borderline," nearly 28 years ago, in June 1984.

"Give Me All Your Luvin'" includes a reference to "Lucky Star," which in October 1984 became Madonna's first top five hit on the Hot 100. Many other artists have referred to previous hits in their work. The Beatles' 1967 hit "All You Need Is Love" references their 1964 smash "She Loves You." Sting's 1985 hit "Love Is The Seventh Wave" references The Police's 1983 classic "Every Breath You Take."
Two Madonna classics are listed on Hot Digital Songs in the first full week after her Super Bowl performance. Her 1989 smash "Like A Prayer" zooms from #112 to #38. Her 1990 smash "Vogue" re-enters at #160. "Prayer" has sold 690K digital copies. "Vogue" has sold 450K.

Madonna Joins The Bert Show...

Talks Music, M.I.A. At The Super Bowl, Her Best Music…And If A Woman Should Be In The White House The Queen of Pop herself, Madonna, called The Bert Show to talk about, well, being one of the world’s most powerful icons.
From serious thoughts on M.I.A.’s gesture at the Super Bowl half-time show (not to mention all the prep that went into it) and how she balances being a Super Mom (let’s just say Wendy narced on Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes’ new haircut) to where she gets her drive to be the best and when she made her best music (side note: is Britney on this album?), Madonna delivers the answers in the way that only a female powerhouse decked out in pajamas and amped up on two cups of coffee and Red Bull can: with honesty and grit.
The lighter side of things: Madonna didn’t get to where she is by coasting through life (she even reviewed and rated her own Super Bowl performance), but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t know how to kick it with the rest of ‘em. Dishing on what underwear she’s wearing (apparently Bert has the same pair) and joking around about his contribution to her half-time show (he did a stellar job waving around that finger light, after all), the Queen shows us that she’s as true to herself and as well rounded as her catalog of record breaking music.
And it wouldn’t be a real Bert Show interview if we didn’t ask her this one little question that’s been all over our show recently: should a woman be President?  Click Here to Listen
Madonna’s album MDNA drops on March 26, 2012, tickets for The Madonna 2012 World Tour go on sale starting Monday, Feb. 13, and her new film, W.E. is in theaters now.

Exclusive Look: Meet the New Material Girls!

Material Girl Ads
They really are lucky ladies: Samantha Titus, Katrina (Tina) Arandjelovic and Kimberly Perry are the brand new faces of Madonna and Lourdes Leon‘s beauty and clothing line, Material Girl. The girls beat out thousands of wannabe catwalkers in the brand’s “Lucky Stars” model search, and were handpicked by the mother-daughter duo to front the line.

“We set out to find someone who embodied the Material Girl lifestyle: a free-spirited girl with an interest in fashion, who isn’t afraid to express herself and let her true personality shine through,” Madonna and Leon said in a statement. “It came down to three girls who we absolutely loved and felt were true Material Girls, so we decided to make all of them winners.”
The ladies’ first ads, seem here, were shot in a New York City studio (Kelly Osbourne and Leon were both on set) and will debut in magazines, online and in stores later this month. The girls — who each won $5,000 in addition to the job — range in age from 19 to 21 and came from California, Illinois in New York. One runner-up, Briana Herrera, was named special correspondent for Material Girl and will blog on behalf of the brand.

Osbourne, who’s been the face of the brand for a year, won’t appear in further ads, though she hopes to stay involved with the line. “I can’t even tell you what it’s done for my confidence,” she told PEOPLE in December. “To be a face of a fashion line? I’m not even a model citizen.”
The Fashion Police star helped with the initial stages of the model search, going to open calls at malls around the U.S. before online voters — and later Madonna and Leon — chose the finalists and winners. “It gave me faith in the female kind again seeing these awesome young girls on stage,” she shared.

Buzz: Lourdes Leon Shaves Her Head

Lourdes Leon Shaved Head
Leave it to Madonna‘s daughter to try a cool new look! Lourdes Leon stepped out on her way to school in New York Thursday, sporting a funky new half-shaved do. The stylish 15-year-old — who’s had long dark hair forever — had her hair up in a bun, bringing extra attention to the edgy style.

Leon hasn’t made drastic changes to her hair before, though she’s toyed with the idea. “I want royal blue hair but not a streak, like my entire head,” the teen designer wrote on her blog in December of 2010.

But at the time, she wasn’t so sure she’d get away with the change. “I read this blog aloud to my mother,” she continued, “and she is sitting here staring at me with no expression on her face, as if she doesn’t approve of it!” Wonder if Madonna gave this cut the OK? Tell us: What do you think of Leon’s look?

Whitney Houston Has Died

RIP

Okay, I'm back and I still can't believe it. When this first came up on my inbox, I thought it was a hoax and then when I read that her rep confirmed it, I had goosebumps on my nails. Whitney was out with Ray-J the other night and her situation didn't look good, but I didn't think things were that bad. Whitney just shot the remake of Sparkle and I thought she was going to have a huge comeback. I thought she was going to outlive Bobb-aaaay B and everybody else. I was beyond wrong.
TMZ says that Whitney died at the Beverly Hills Hotel this afternoon. It was initially reported that Ray-J is the one who found Whitney in her hotel room, but that's not true. The paramedics were already at the hotel on an unrelated call, so they got to Whitney within minutes after somebody called 911. They tried to bring her back by giving her CPR, but it didn't work and she was pronounced dead at 3:55pm. Both Cissy Houston and Dionne Warwick spoke with Whitney before she died and said she seemed fine.
Whitney is survived by her daughter Bobbi Kristina.
There's really nothing for me to say except that this is really fucking sad. Whitney was all talent and she when she wasn't entertaining us with her voice, she was giving us gems like "Show me the receipts" (Which I use at least twice a day, right?) and "Hell to the no." This is just sad. The Grammys better scrap all of tomorrow night's show and give us a Whitney tribute starring only Dionne Warwick. The only person I want to hear from right now is Cousin Dionne.
Rest in peace, Whitney.
