Madonna was in Bay City Friday Night, says Funeral Home Director

BAY CITY — It is the question Bay City residents were wondering this weekend.

Was pop singer Madonna in Bay City for the funeral of her maternal grandmother Elsie Mae Fortin?

Mlive.com readers surfaced rumors throughout the weekend, saying Madonna was at Gephart Funeral Home in Bay City a day before the funeral.

I cannot confirm this personally but I was told Madonna was seen late Friday night exiting the funeral home with body guards and children present. We all know how Bay City rumors are so don't shoot the messenger here. Could have been a case of mistaken identity also.

According to David Luczak, co-owner of the funeral home, Madonna was at Fortin's memorial service Friday night.

Madonna was not at Fortin's funeral service Saturday morning, which saw about 150 people in attendance.

According to a report with anonymous sources by MyBayCity.com, Madonna arrived at the funeral home with her four children in two black sports utility vehicles.

While in Bay City, reports out of Britain said Madonna's London home was burglarized by a 29-year-old man, who was arrested early Saturday morning, according to CBSNews.com. Grzegorz Matlok, was expected in a London court Monday, charged with burglary.

Fortin died Wednesday in her Bay City home at the age of 99, about three months short of her 100th birthday.
