Madonna: Stop Giving Her a Bum Deal

So she bares her bottom on stage. What a shame her critics don't get her message.
When Madonna got her bum out on stage in Rome in June, I was delighted. I don't know why anyone complained. Have you seen the footage? It's pure, old-fashioned, summer entertainment. It proves that however powerful the forces of cultural change, however hi-tech and diversified our "infotainment streams", and however tastes may wax and wane, there is still nothing funnier than seeing someone's trousers fall down in public.
In the clip, Madonna (singing Human Nature) turns her back on the crowd. Suddenly, artfully, the pinstripe trousers slip down to knee height, revealing fishnet underwear. It's a marvellous 21st-century take on Kenneth Connor. If they ever remake Carry On Girls, Madonna absolutely must play Mayor Bumble.
The thing is, I'm sure she meant it to be funny. In the original video for this song, back in 1995, there was a bondage scene where she licked a chihuahua. (That isn't a euphemism.) It was definitely a joke.
That original video is quite amusing. Its title, Human Nature, suggests quite strongly that she is trying to make a point.
A couple of weeks before Bumgate, performing the same song in Istanbul, Madonna pulled her bra down and popped out a nipple. I found that less funny. But Madonna is a gutsy, fifty-something, Italian-American Catholic doing a particular kind of comedy: a European-style, circus-style, commedia dell'arte sort of performance, clowning and dancing and flashing to satirise repression. I'm English; I laugh at trousers falling down, but tut at nipple.

Madonna: Stands Up for Gay Rights

Never afraid to back away from controversy, pop diva Madonna spoke up for gay rights and against a local law which forbids homosexual ‘propaganda’, during her concert in St. Petersburg on Thursday.
Madonna called on the audience to "show your love and appreciation to the gay community".
Words "No Fear" were seen written on the singer’s back as she performed on the stage in black lingerie.
"Do we live in fear?" Madonna asked the crowd of fans at the show. "No!" was the answer.
Madonna kept her promise to stand up for gay rights in St. Petersburg and the law adopted by the city’s government in March. The law imposes fines for “pernicious homosexual propaganda” that affects “the moral and spiritual development of minors”.
And the singer also made sure the audience knew she was supporting the members of the feminist punk band Pussy Riot. Madonna rushed to defend the three girls, who may be jailed for three years for their anti-Putin "punk prayer" at Moscow’s main cathedral.

Elton John: Madonna looks like a stripper...

SIR Elton John has reignited his long-standing feud with Madonna by branding her a f****** fairground stripper whose career is over.

The sharp-tongued Rocket Man blasted his chart foe on Australian TV and is furious that she keeps laying into his pal Lady Gaga who is godmother to his son Zachary.  Madonna has repeatedly taken swipes at her young pop rival over her hit Born This Way, which has often been compared to the singers 1989 single Express Yourself.

Madonna Inc.

Fashion lines, bestselling books, corporate tie-ins, branded gyms — the Material Girl knows how to survive in a material world. Tom Whipple reports on the business secrets of pop’s savviest star. LONDON — When Madonna’s latest single premiered in February it was, of course, big news on her official fan website. In a post headlined “Wow”, fan Selena said: “I feel so privileged to know Madonna in my lifetime.” Butch1977’s comment on the release was marginally more measured. “I’m awestruck,” he said.
Neither seemed to mind particularly, though, that the blog post they were responding to also boasted: “A key part of the album release included a first of its kind worldwide promotion by Clear Channel, a leading global media and entertainment company, which ... used extensive promotions to drive Madonna fans to iTunes.”
If you look back over the news releases on the site, you begin to notice several motifs. Whoever writes them is fond of starting sentences with “we are happy to announce...” and never forgets to send Madonna a birthday message (though always forgets to mention the singer’s age).

Madonna’s ‘Truth Or Dare’ Perfume Ad Is Too Racy For TV

A few days ago Madonna released a commercial for her new fragrance called Truth or Dare. Today we learn that the Truth or Dare commercial has been deemed “too racy” for TV and must be edited if it’s to be aired on television here in the US. Feel free to roll your eyes at any time. In more positive news, Madonna has announced that she will return to Twitter to chat with fans next week. So you will get a chance to ask Madge how she feels about this new controversy. Woot!

For showing too much cleavage, Madonna’s perfume ad is banned from television. Her 30-second black and white commercial for Truth or Dare is deemed too racy by ABC that the network has ordered a revision or else they won’t air it. The 53-year-old singer wears a low-cut corset and fishnet stockings while singing and writhing to her dance song. ABC wants the ad digitally altered to cover shots of her body, particularly the corset that shows big area of her breasts and behind. “ABC also wants to cut another suggestive scene where Madonna writhes around,” a source told NY Post. Even after the changes, ABC will only air the commercial after 9 P.M. for older audience.

LOL! I’m sorry but this is complete bullshizz. There is no way that I find anything in this video “too racy” … certainly not “too racy” for daytime/primetime television. Sophia Vergara shows more cleavage than this on Modern Family (an ABC sitcom) and in herCover Girl commercials (which air all day, every day). I can’t help but think that this “controversy” is nothing more than faked PR. This commercial is terribly tame, especially by Madonna standards. I just cannot believe that anyone finds this clip at all “racy”.
