'Music' topped the Billboard Hot 100 on September, 16, 2000. It was her first Billboard Hot 100 since 1995 (and her 12th and most recent leader). By reaching number one, it made Madonna the second artist to achieve number one hits on the Hot 100 in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. The first was Janet Jackson, who had done the same achievement with "Doesn't Really Matter", which preceded "Music" as the Hot 100's number one single. "Music" was also the longest-running number one song on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play in the 2000s, with a longevity of five weeks at number one. It eventually became the second most-successful dance song of the 2000s in the United States, reaching number two on the Hot Dance Club Play Decade-end Chart, behind Madonna's own "Hung Up" (2005).

Madonna Notches Historic 44th No. 1 on Dance Club Songs Chart
By Gary Trust
The Queen of Pop reigns again with 'Living for Love,' tying with George Strait, the King of Country, for the most leaders on a single Billboard chart. Madonna makes Billboard chart history, as she earns her 44th No. 1 on Dance Club Songs, where "Living for Love" lifts 2-1. (The ranking, dated March 7, will refresh on Billboard.com on Thursday, Feb. 26.)bWith the coronation, Madonna equals George Strait, who's logged 44 No. 1s on Hot Country Songs, for the most leaders ever by an act on a singular Billboardchart. It's fitting history for the artists also known, respectively, and reverently, as the Queen of Pop and the King of Country.Thursday, February 5, 2015

Exclusive: Madonna to Premiere Music Video from 'Rebel Heart' on Snapchat Discover Today
The "Living for Love" music video is the first to premiere on the app's Snap Channel.
Today, Madonna is set to premiere the first music video from her new album, Rebel Heart, on Snapchat, the picture messaging app that was recently valued at $10 billion. The video accompanies "Living for Love," the album's first single, and will be viewable on the app's "Snap Channel."
It's been a rocky album campaign for the pop star, 56, who has endured two devastating album leaks, the second of which happened on Monday and included the 25-track deluxe version. Rebel Heart will go on sale Tuesday, March 10th, after Madonna performs at the Grammy Awards on Feb. 8th, and the Brit Awards on Feb. 25th.
The video was directed by the French duo Julien Choquart and Camille Hirigoyen, together known as J.A.C.K., was edited by longtime Madonna collaborator Danny B. Tull, and styled by B. Akerlund -- who also works wth Beyonce, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga. It was choreographed by Megan Lawson.
To state the obvious, it's a major coup for the three-year-old Snapchat, which boasts an estimated 200 million users. CEO Evan Spiegel made headlines during last year's Sony hack when a series of uncovered e-mails revealed that he was at work on an in-app music feature, including negotiations with Vevo to bring music video viewing inside Snapchat's interface. Those talks reported stalled, but the music feature being discussed was likely tied to Discover, which was announced last month.
Discover feeds news and entertainment from 12 different companies directly to the user. Participating organizations include Warner Music Group, National Geographic, People magazine, ESPN and Vice, who enlist editors to select stories (which can include photo essays and videos) that are shared and refreshed every 24 hours.

The Inside Story of How Madonna Turned Her 'Rebel Heart' Leak Into a Global Hit
By Andrew Hampp
On Dec. 16, Madonna was in her New York apartment when she received word that more than a dozen unfinished demos for her forthcoming album had leaked. Her manager, Guy Oseary, was just returning to his Beverly Hills estate when he got the news. The album, Rebel Heart, was set for a late-April release, and thanks to a meticulous marketing plan and an inspired group of collaborators (including Diplo, Kanye West and Avicii), buzz was strong on the singer's 13th studio full-length.
But now, all bets were off. Madonna shot off a fiery post on her Instagram account lambasting the leak as "artistic rape," Oseary got on the phone, and both sprung into action. "I don't recall that phone coming off my ear from 6 a.m. to 6 a.m.," he says.

MTV famously refused to air the song's racy video, but that didn't hurt its popularity. In fact, it fuelled its fire. On this date 24 years ago, "Justify My Love" became Madonna's ninth Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 (of 12 total).

Billboard: Madonna's 'Bedtime Stories' Turns 20
Twenty years ago this month, Madonna released her sixth studio album,Bedtime Stories, a classic that came out at a strange crossroads in her career.
While Madonna certainly didn't lack for fame in 1994, the button-pushing Eroticaalbum had soured many critics and fans. For the first time in a decade of superstardom, people weren't shocked by her antics anymore -- even worse, they often seemed exhausted by her.
Artistically speaking, she'd spent the last four years challenging and subverting America's sexual puritanism. But after releasing an entire book called Sexfeaturing nude pictures of herself and other celebrities, there didn't seem to be anywhere else to go in that realm.
It didn't help that she'd detonated 14 F-bombs on a March 1994 episode of The Late Show With David Letterman, an infamous appearance that racked up FCC complaints and distanced her from Middle America. Evita was two years away and the overt sexuality of Erotica was growing stale -- so when Bedtime Storieshit, Madonna's career was at a strange point.

Madonna Adds DJ Dahi & Blood Diamonds to Collaborators List
The diva posted an Instagram photo on Saturday (Sept. 20) of DJ Dahi and Blood Diamonds working behind a computer, with the caption, “Nothing can stop the Sex Boyzzzzzz!” The list of collaborators for Madonna’s next album continues to grow. DJ Dahi is the producer behind Drake’s "Worst Behavior,” and has worked with other artists like Kendrick Lamar and Lily Allen. Pop act Blood Diamonds (aka Mike Diamond) is a frequent collaborator with Grimes.
Madonna has also been working with super-producer Diplo, who has turned up in multiple photos on her Instagram account. In his Billboard magazine cover feature, Diplo said that he's had multiple studio sessions with Madonna that have resulted in at least three "amazing, smashes."
The diva's next as-yet untitled album will be released in 2015 on Interscope Records. Her last release, 2012's MDNA, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Based on a glance at Madonna’s Instagram feed, the set may also feature collaborations with Toby Gad, MoZella, S1, Ariel Rechtshaid, Avicii, Natalia Killsand Martin Kierszenbaum.

Immaculate Collection enters the Billboard chart for the first time since 1993
Now that a full week has passed since the Grammy Awards, the Billboard charts are properly rocked by the show and its many winners and performers.
(The latest Nielsen SoundScan sales tracking week ended on February 2. It captures the first seven days after the Grammys, which aired on CBS on January 26.)
Notable re-entries on the Billboard 200 this week include Stevie Wonder’s “Songs in the Key of Life” and Madonna’s “The Immaculate Collection.”
Madonna assisted Macklemore & Ryan Lewis in their “Same Love” Grammy performance, by singing a few lines of her No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit “Open Your Heart.” The song, first released in 1986 on the “True Blue” album, is also featured on Madonna’s first greatest hits album, “The Immaculate Collection.” The latter re-enters the Billboard 200 chart for the first time since 1993, as it returns at No. 153 with 3,000 (up 494%). It’s the best sales frame for “Immaculate” since July of 2008.
Both Wonder and Madonna’s albums also profit from a limited-time sale price in the Google Play store last week, where each title was briefly marked down to 99-cents for select consumers.
The album has sold 30 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling compilation album by a solo artist and one of the best selling albums of all time.

I'll Remember...1989
Oh Father
Released: October 25, 1989
Billboard Hot 100 Peak: 20
Accompanied by a stunning black and white music
video, the haunting ballad "Oh Father" was the fourth single from the
"Like a Prayer" album. At the time, "Oh Father" had the
unfortunate honor of becoming Madonna’s first single, since "Holiday"
in 1984, not to enter the top ten in the United States, peaking at number 20 on
the week of December 30, 1989. This ended her streak of 16 consecutive top five
singles and 17 consecutive top ten singles including "Borderline"
(1984) through "Cherish" (1989) as they all had reached the top
10.
"Oh Father" was not released as a single in
most European territories until December 24, 1995, when it appeared on
Madonna's 1995 compilation album Something to Remember. The 1995 single was
released with different tracklisting and artwork which included a photography
still from the 1989 music video. The song debuted and peaked at number 16 on
the UK Singles Chart on January 6, 1996. It became the third single of her
career to miss the top-ten position in the United Kingdom, after "Lucky
Star" (1984) and "Take a Bow" (1994).

Generally accepted by critics and academics as a love
letter to Tony Ciccone or as an indictment, Madonna never divulged her
inspiration behind "Oh Father", except saying that the song was about
her father and a tribute to Simon & Garfunkel. She added, "The song is what
the listener thinks it is, all open to interpretation. I just wrote the song,
it's up to others to interpret them to mean what they want them to mean. "'Oh Father' is like the second half of 'Live to
Tell', in a way. It was a combo package—it was about my father and my husband.
I was dealing with male authority figures once again. That is a great source of
inspiration in my writing."
—Madonna talking about the song to Craig Rosen,
author of The Billboard Book of Number One Albums
"Typical Fincher features are present: black and white, shadows,
leisurely camera movement, extreme high angles, and some slow motion. A black
and white setting dissolves between shots, creating a sense of fluidity between
scenes and images, and many scenes are shot in snow, particularly the
reverse-tracking shot in the opening from the snowscape into the house.
However, the child-centered narrative in which trauma in childhood supposedly
affects the life of an adult is not visually coherent."
—Browning talking about the music video in his book, David

Madonna Notches 43rd No. 1 on Dance/Club Play Songs
Madonna earns her record-extending 43rd No. 1 on Billboard's Dance/Club Play Songs chart, as "Turn Up the Radio" lifts 2-1. (The ranking will refresh on Billboard.com Thursday, Aug. 30.) "Radio" is Madonna's third Dance/Club Play Songs No. 1 from "MDNA," which bowed atop the Billboard 200 the week of April 14. "Give Me All Your Luvin'," featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., led the week of March 31, while "Girl Gone Wild" reached No. 1 just three weeks later.
"Radio" is headed for radio, too: Interscope Records begins seeking airplay for the song at mainstream top 40 stations on Sept. 25.
With her 43rd leading title on Dance/Club Play Songs, Madonna pulls further away from runner-up Janet Jackson, who has 19. Beyonce and Rihanna follow with 18 No. 1s each, trailed by Kristine W (16) and Mariah Carey (15).
Looking forward, with one more No. 1 on Dance/Club Play Songs, the Material Girl would claim even more historic honors.
Upon her latest coronation, Madonna is now one No. 1 away from tying George Strait's record for the most toppers on any single Billboard chart. The King of Country has sat at the Country Songs chart's throne with 44 titles between 1981 and 2009. With one more No. 1 on Dance/Club Play Songs, the Queen of Pop would tie Strait for unmatched Billboard chart royalty.
