'I want her to go to school there!'
Anxious parents are often seen shepherding their reluctant teenage children around college campuses and it seems even Madonna can't bypass this particular rite of passage.
The pop star took her daughter Lourdes to scope out the University of Michigan on Wednesday, according to People.
The 17-year-old is said to be interested in the institution's musical theatre program. Her mother, who studied there before moving to New York to pursue her dream of pop stardom, has made no secret of the fact she would like her eldest child to attend the university.
'I want my daughter to go to school there,' Madonna told the National Football League Network in an interview before her Super Bowl XLVI halftime performance in 2012. 'I keep telling her, Ann Arbor is an awesome place.'
The Material Girl tried to keep the focus on her daughter and stayed as low key as possible. But it wasn't long before news of their visit hit the campus.
'There was a lot of excitement,' Lindsey Meekhof, a vocal performance senior, told People.
Madonna and Lourdes toured North Campus with a musical theater major and ate lunch at one of the residence halls.
'Someone announced to my choir class Madonna was in the building, and choir wasn't productive anymore after that.'
'Madonna tried to keep the attention on her daughter but ... people were everywhere,' Lindsey added.
A rep for Madonna had no comment on the college visit.
Aside from Lourdes, her daughter with trainer-actor Carlos Leon, Madonna has three other children: Rocco Ritchie, 13, with ex-husband Guy Ritchie and their adopted son, David Banda Ritchie, 8, plus her adopted daughter Mercy Ciccone, 7.

Did ArtFlop...POP?!

When I think of ARTPOP, I don’t think of career-burying Waterloos like Jackson’s final studio album Invincible. To me—as long as the whole world is going to compare Lady Gaga to Madonna anyway—ARTPOP is her Erotica.
Remember that overlong 1992 Madonna album? Released to coincide with Sex, Madge’s art book/photography happening, Erotica the album was a 75-minute smorgasbord of musings on carnal desire, acclaimed by some at the time but now generally regarded as three-star Madonna at best. It does contain—and is redeemed by—two of her best ’90s singles, “Deeper and Deeper” and “Rain,” both Top 20 hits (the album’s biggest single, the No. 3–peaking title track, is forgettable). Most important, Erotica was only a modest commercial performer, peaking at No. 2 for a single week and thus snapping a streak of No. 1 studio albums (Like a Virgin, True Blue, Like a Prayer). It ended up double-platinum—a fine showing, but the lowest-selling studio album of Madge’s first decade.
The parallels between Madonna’s fifth studio album and Gaga’s fourth are manifold. Pretentions toward high art? Check: Erotica landed at Madge’s Camille Paglia moment, when—between Sex and the recent hit/video “Justify My Love”—her output felt more like a semiotics thesis than a career. Underperforming singles? Check: There were no No. 1s on Erotica; it would take until her next album, 1994’s Bedtime Stories, for her to top the Hot 100 again (with “Take a Bow”). Catcalls from the peanut gallery? Check: In The Rolling Stone Album Guide, Barry Walters aptly recalls the release of Erotica as the moment when “a media backlash intensified.”
Given what lay ahead for Madonna after Erotica—career triumphs like Ray of Light and Music, a raft of Top 10 hits—Gaga would be well within her rights keeping perspective right now

Top 10 Best Dressed From Past American Music Awards
Before the 41st annual AMAs air on ABC Nov. 24, we looked back at previous years to find some of the most successful looks and determined the best of the best dressed.
1. Madonna in 1985
The Material Girl’s over accessorized black corset dress probably wouldn’t make a best dressed list today. However, this edgy ensemble is the epitome of ‘80s fashion and remains one of the “Vogue” singer’s classic looks.

Still the 'Material Girl'
Madonna is living up to her nickname: the Material Girl tops Forbes annual list of the top-earning musicians by a wide margin. How much did she make, and who was her closest competition?
The top 5:
1. Madonna - $125 million
2. Lady Gaga - $80 million
3. Bon Jovi - $79 million
4. Toby Keith - $65 million
5. Coldplay - $64 million
2. Lady Gaga - $80 million
3. Bon Jovi - $79 million
4. Toby Keith - $65 million
5. Coldplay - $64 million
Madonna easily surpassed singer Lady Gaga and veteran rockers Bon Jovi as the highest-paid musician in 2013, Forbes said on Tuesday.
Madonna earned $125 million, most of which was from her hugely successful MDNA tour, which grossed $305 million, as well as merchandise sold at concerts and a clothing line and fragrance.

Concert Giant Eyes Managment of Madonna
Live Nation Entertainment, the giant concert company that includes Ticketmaster, is in advanced negotiations to buy the management companies behind U2 and Madonna, according to several people with direct knowledge of the talks.
If the deal is consummated, it will further strengthen Live Nation’s already deep ties with U2 and Madonna, two of the highest-earning and most durable pop acts of the last 30 years.
As part of the deal, Live Nation would pay more than $30 million for both Principle Management, the company of U2’s longtime manager, Paul McGuinness, as well as Maverick, run by Guy Oseary, Madonna’s manager, according to these people, who spoke on the condition that they not be named because they were not authorized to discuss the deal publicly.
Madonna and Music Producer Win 'Vogue' Sampling Lawsuit
A court rules that "no reasonable audience" would find the sampled portions of a 1976 composition significant "nor would they recognize the appropriation."
A lawsuit claiming thatMadonna and producerRobert "Shep" Pettibone illegally sampled a tune on her 1990 international hit "Vogue," has been resolved with a ruling favor of the defendants. The original lawsuit was filed in July by VMG Salsoul, the copyright owner of a 1976 composition called "Love Break." The plaintiff alleged that it was only through new technology that the "deliberately hidden" sampling had been detected.
But a U.S. District Court judge in California has ruled on summary judgment that sampling of the Horn hit was "trivial," in that in could not be recognized.
"Having listened to the sound recordings of Chicago Bus Stop, Love Break, and Vogue, the Court finds that no reasonable audience would find the sampled portions qualitatively or quantitatively significant in relation to the infringing work, nor would they recognize the appropriation," the ruling reads. "The Court finds that any sampling of the Horn Hit was de minimis or trivial."
Says attorney Richard Busch, who represented the defendants: "We are thrilled with the decision, and believe it is absolutely the right result."
Madonna calls on Vladimir Putin to release campaigners being held in Russia
Madonna left LAX this afternoon where she opted for a private security screening, instead of enduring the regular ones for mortals. lol
Madonna has become the latest star to call on Vladimir Putin to release the 30 Greenpeace crew members jailed after a protest against oil exploitation in the Russian Arctic.
The group, including six Britons and former Mirror journalist Kieron Bryan, are being held in St Petersburg on hooliganism charges carrying a maximum seven year sentence, after being moved from a bleak detention centre above the Arctic Circle.
In a message to Greenpeace, the singer said: "These 30 people are in prison in Russia for staging a peaceful protest in the Arctic.
“Let your voice be heard. Let’s bring these people home.”
It is her latest intervention in Russian politics after she last year demanded the two jailed Pussy Riot singers should be released, and handed out pink ribbons at a St Petersburg concert in opposition to legislation banning homosexual propaganda.
Madonna spoke out after Sir Paul McCartney last week revealed a personal letter to the Russian leader urging him to allow the activists and several journalists to be home for Christmas.
David Cameron has also urged Mr Putin to treat the so called “Arctic 30” fairly.
Madonna's message came on the same day Greenpeace protesters gathered at petrol stations across the UK, also asking for the group's release.
Campaigners targeted Shell outlets following reports that the company is to join with Russian oil giant Gazprom in drilling off the Arctic shore.

SNL: Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga pokes fun at the comparisons of herself to Madonna in this funny sketch from her appearance as the guest host on Saturday Night Live!
In the skit, the comedians on the show portrayed different singers who were performing versions of other artists’ songs for a compilation disc.
When Gaga was introduced to be performing a version of Madonna‘s song “Express Yourself,” she actually just started singing her hit song “Born This Way” instead. When Gaga released the song a few years ago, it was instantly compared to the classic Madonna song.

As it turns out, Lady Gaga was more than pleased to ruffle Madonna's feathers
In a new interview with Attitude, Lady Gaga addressed her conflicts with the Queen of Pop over the Gaga song "Born This Way."
"I have to be really honest, I was completely kind of floored that Madonna was singing my song on her stage every night! I'm certainly not thinking about anybody but me and my fans when I'm on stage," Gaga said to Attitude, referencing the fact that Madonna took to performing a mashup of "Born This Way" and her own song "Express Yourself" during live concerts last year. (The songs share a similar beat and melody.)
"The fact that I was on her mind at all. I mean, Madonna's ... she’s Madonna. I looked up to her for a long time. I'm not quite sure what her intention was -– to do that in the show, but I don’t really care," Gaga continued. "I think playing into the gossip of the tabloids and, I guess the fodder of the competition, that's just not what I'm about. She chooses to use her voice the way she chooses to use hers and I choose to use mine the way I use mine. All it meant to me was that Madonna Ciccone was singing my song on her stage and I'm 27! And as a punk-rocker from New York, I've basically been hoping that I would become so good that one day I would piss off Madonna!"
